psychological, physical, and social needs of people in
rehabilitation centers, nursing care facilities and senior
housing programs, volunteer Master Gardeners and Union County
Agricultural Agent Madeline Flahive DiNardo created the
eight-session Introduction to Horticultural Therapy (IHT) program
Since 1988, our IHT Program has been offered at 76 sites,
reaching 2560 children and adults with special needs.
Agencies have incorporated horticultural activities into both curriculum and activity schedules, and have planted community
and accessible gardens as a result of this program.
Community Beautification projects at local schools, parks, and municipal buildings have
been developed by Master Gardeners throughout Union County.
The Speakers Bureau is currently undergoing
reorganization so that we may better serve the horticultural
education needs of the community.
